St. Peter Chapter

Established in 1993, the St. Peter Chapter has completed 16 houses in St. Peter and 1 in Kasota, helping 17 families move from rental housing or mobile homes into simple and decent houses. Currently, one house is under construction by the St. Peter High School Building Trades class during the 2007-2008 school year.

Houses and Financing

hab-home
Habitat for Humanity houses are built by volunteers working in partnership with low-income families. Each family puts in 500 hours of work on their own home, on other houses, and on fundraising activities. When the house is completed, the family purchases it with a standard 15 to 30 year mortgage from Habitat. No interest is charged on the mortgage, making the house affordable to people who do not qualify for standard bank mortgages.

Financing comes from individual, church, and business donations. Material and labor donations are welcomed as much as financial donations. Additionally, Habitat reinvests the monthly mortgage payments from homeowners in new Habitat houses.
