Donations

The average cost of building each house is about $80,000, most of which comes from contributions by individuals. Every donation is tax-deductible, staying with the affiliate long after the next house is built as the homeowners pay off their no-profit, zero interest mortgage. As a result, every gift given will continue to build more houses.

Unless specified otherwise, 10% of every donation goes to Habitat International to build homes in other countries. For about 10% of the average cost of a house in the United States, Habitat can build another house in a developing country. Tithing by Habitat of South Central Minnesota supports Habitat for Humanity of Tanzania.

Monetary Donations

Monetary donations can be made in two ways. Online credit card donations are handled through a secure server at Habitat International, with 100% of the donation coming back to our affiliate (please note that this will only work if you are currently living in our service area). Other donations can be sent to the St. Peter Chapter:

St. Peter Chapter, Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 202, St. Peter, MN 56082

Material Donations:

We can also utilize material donations to help reduce our building costs. Quality new or used supplies, such as lights, lumber, trim, doors, and other building material can help us get one house closer to ending sub-standard housing in South Central Minnesota. We are also always looking for new lots.

Trade Labor

We are continually seeking donations of labor from related trades. Skilled labor donations in the areas of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, drywall, as well as helping draft house plans, etc.

ReStore Donations

In the spring of 2007, the South Central Minnesota affiliate opened a ReStore, a retail store that will accept donations of new and used building materials and home fixtures to sell at 50-75% off retail price. It raises money for Habitat for Humanity to build additional homes and also helps the environment by diverting tons of useable material from landfills. Contractors, businesses and individuals benefit when they receive a tax deduction and avoid landfill fees. Our affiliate envisions an increase in house production by one home per year with funds generated by the ReStore, which also holds a warehouse and offices for Habitat for Humanity. If you would like to make a donation to the development of the ReStore, please download the donation form.
