South Central Minnesota Affiliate

The South Central Minnesota Affiliate consists of three chapters in Mankato, St. Peter, and Le Sueur. Each chapter has an independent board, but they share resources and a staffed office in Mankato.

St. Peter Chapter

Like many Habitat affiliates around the country, the St. Peter Chapter does most of its work in volunteer committees (see list below). Four times a year, these committees meet together to report on the work they have done and to share ideas. New volunteers are always welcome at these meetings since they provide a good introduction to the organization and to the many ways volunteers can contribute.

a) Building Committee
The building committee is responsible for the actual construction of our homes, working with our family partners to develop their homes. The committee also over sees obtaining bids from vendors for projects such as plumbing and heating as well as bids for the lumber yards used in our construction.

b) Public Relations, Fundraising, and Church Relations Committee
This committee is responsible for informing the public about Habitat events and builds by writing articles for the affiliate newsletter and for local newspapers. It also organizes several fundraising events each year and develops partnerships with churches in St. Peter and the surrounding area.

c) Family Selection Committee
This committee chooses qualified families for our family partners. During the selection process, the committee reviews written applications and makes home visits.

d) Family Partner Committee
This committee pairs a volunteer with each family to guide them through the process of becoming a Habitat homeowner. The volunteer helps to make decisions regarding the house and is available to answer any questions that the future homeowner may have.

e) Site Selection Committee
This committee selects appropriate sites for Habitat homes.
